Since 1988, the Thanksgiving Day Love Feast has been feeding anyone who needs a good meal on Thanksgiving Day, and this year was no different.

More than 1,400 were served on Thursday.

Volunteers began serving the free traditional Thanksgiving dinner at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Rome Civic Center on Jackson Hill.

This year, servers included five Rome City Commissioners, and the son and grandson of the late Buddy Mitchell.

Mitchell, along with fellow Rome City Commissioners Napoleon Fielder, helped secure the use of the Rome Civic Center for the Love Feast when it first began.

Fielder’s son also helps out with cooking turkeys.

In addition to food, coats, and jackets were available for those in need.
