The City of Rome held a ribbon-cutting on Monday for the newly renovated Clock Tower, drawing a large crowd to celebrate the completion of the 2023 SPLOST-funded project.
The work brought fresh paint, new timbers, improved roofing, and upgraded clock mechanisms.
Early in the renovation, crews removed nearly 2,000 pounds of old paint, revealing decay beneath the surface. A noticeable lean in the structure also had to be corrected.
Project general contractor Greg Jacobs spoke at the event about what makes Rome’s Clock Tower so unique, and what it was like to work on such a historic landmark.
