Plans for the joint law enforcement center are becoming a little clearer.
The city and county police departments have been relocated to new homes, and the law enforcement center is being renovated for additional courtroom space.
Phase one will see the tax commissioner and tag offices moving to the third floor of the center, according to Floyd County Commissioner Rhonda Wallace.
“E-911 will stay on the second floor, and juvenile court will also move to the second floor,” she said. “Then, in phase two, the magistrate court and probate court will move to the first floor, and before they move there, we will do some lobby renovations.”
Wallace also gave an update on the renovations to the Historic Courthouse.
“The exterior renovations will include repainting the white trim, cleaning the bricks, and gutter work,” she said. “Water leaks from the gutters have caused some plaster damage on the inside, so there will be some additional downspouts added, which should take care of the damage to the interior of the building.“
Once the tax commissioner and tag offices move into the law enforcement, renovations will begin to the inside of the Historic Courthouse.
