New York man charged in fatal wreck Thursday night in Shannon

The driver of an 18-wheeler has been charged with felony 1st-degree vehicular following a crash that claimed the life of a Calhoun woman.

The wreck occurred Thursday evening just before midnight on Highway 53 near Calhoun Road.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

The commercial vehicle, driven by 47-year-old Pavinder Singh of Floral Park, New York, was traveling on the wrong side of the road without its headlights on and struck another vehicle head-on.

Deputy Floyd County Coroner Chris Giles said 34-year-old Letha Lamb was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second person was injured and required medical attention and stitches.

During the investigation, Singh was found with an open container of alcohol.

He is additionally charged with serious injury by vehicle, DUI, open container, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road, and no headlights.

Singh is also being held, without bond, for US Customes and Immigration.
