The Floyd County Commission has approved a resolution to close a portion of Herring Road off Highway 156 in the Armuchee area.

According to Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord, the action taken Tuesday is just the first step in the process.

“We’ve had a request from Shire Land Company to close this portion of the road,” McCord said. It also has an Oglethorpe Power Corporation easement running through it. Per policy, if f we adopt this resolution today, it will go forward, be published and advertised for two weeks and come back to the board of commissioners for a public hearing. At that time we will have a vote to approve the closure.”

McCord said the portion of the road has never been taken on as a county road.

“It’s platted, unopened and not maintained by the county,” McCord said. So we really have no interest in at the moment, but the adjoining property owners own all four sides of the parcels that are under consideration.”

The county commission also approved a clarification to the Association County Commissioners of Georgia Defined Benefit Plan regarding early retirement.

Commissioners also approved the purchase of a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 4WD Crew Cab truck for Public Works from Hardy Chevrolet Buick GMC in the amount of $46,890.00 using 2017 SPLOST funds.

Consent agenda items approved during Tuesday’s meeting included a $60,000 Recycling and Waste Diversion Grant Agreement, and a beer and wine license for Family Dollar on Park Avenue in Lindale.
