Man accused of assaulting infant, refusing to allow mother to seek medical treatment

A Rome man arrested at his Nixon Avenue home Monday on charges of aggravated assault and 1st-degree cruelty to children is facing more charges.

30-year-old Cesar Alejandro Lopez Jr. is additionally charged with aggravated battery, false imprisonment, and a second count of 1st-degree child cruelty.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Lopez assaulted a three-month-old child and then refused to allow the mother to seek medical attention for the severely injured infant.

Lopez locked the mother in her room, took her car keys, and took her cell phone from her.

The child had sustained nine broken ribs, an intracranial hemorrhage, and multiple hematomas on his arms, abdomen, and head.

The infant, who also suffered trauma to his liver and brain, was transported to a specialty hospital for pediatric treatment.

Lopez remains jailed without bond.
