Police investigate burglary at West Rome business, damage to an East Rome store

The Rome Police Department is investigating a New Year’s Day burglary at Sam’s Food Mart in West Rome.

According to the incident report:

At around 3 a.m. Monday, two people broke into the store at 1944 Shorter Avenue by knocking down the back sheet-rock wall.

The burglars made off with a bunch of merchandise.

Meanwhile, a Maple Avenue business was damaged by gunfire, according to a Rome Police Department report.

A Rome officer was driving in the area and noticed bullet holes in the front storm door of the Tuk Tuk Food Mart.

A closer inspection revealed two bullet holes in the glass storm door and the exterior of the business.

The report states that an officer heard 4 to 5 gunshots in the area at around 8 p.m. Monday.
