The Rome City Commission recently passed a resolution, adopting the five-year update to the Rome/Floyd/Cave Spring 2040 Comprehensive Plan.

The Georgia Planning Act of 1989 authorizes local governments throughout the State to prepare Comprehensive Plans to be used in guiding their future growth and development.

“We have a 10-year Comprehensive Plan that was made in 2018 and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs requires that we update it,” said Rome-Floyd Planning Director Brice Wood. “We also have to do an update every five years. Part of that is a report of accomplishments for the projects that we have completed over the last five years, and we have quite a successful ratio. We also have to set our work program for the next five years.”

According to Wood, that work program is more ambitious than in past years.

“There are quite a few more categories, and items in each category,’ he said. “We also updated our policies and we exceeded the amount of public engagement required. We’ve held all the required public hearings and even had a 30-day review period. It’s now ready to be reviewed by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.”
