GDOT awards contracts for local projects

The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded a contract for guardrail improvements along a couple of major thoroughfares in Floyd County.

The work will take place on Highway 27 South, beginning at Cedar Avenue and extending to East Second Avenue, and on Highway 411 beginning at Highway 27 and going to Chateau Drive.

The estimated completion date is October 31, 2024.

The low bid was submitted by Gracie Gray Contractors of Canton and comes in at just under $2 million.

Meanwhile, Calhoun-based Northwest Georgia Paving has been awarded a $6.1 million contract for a resurfacing project on Highway 27 in Polk County.

Close to 5.4 miles is set for repaving and shoulder rehabilitation starting just north of Cason Road and extending south of Stephens Road.

The estimated completion date is September of next year.
