Heavy rains cause flash flooding road closures overnight

Heavy rains overnight caused flash flooding and some road closures in Rome and Floyd County.

A Flash Flood Warning expired at 6:30.

According to the National Weather Service, more than four inches of rain was recorded at the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport between midnight and 6 a.m.

All city streets are now clear and all county roads are now open although there are “high water” signs posted on Lindsey Road in the Armuchee area

Overnight, there was flooding reported on the first floor of the Floyd Medical Center/Physicians Center parking deck and vehicles were damaged from flooding in the parking deck with the tunnel at Floyd.

There was also water going into houses in the 300 block of Greenwood Avenue, and there was basement flooding at the high rise on Fifth Avenue.

A vehicle got stuck in high water on West Ninth Street and a man was injured trying to cross Center Street in the high water.

Downed trees were also reported on several roads.
