With Rome Police responding to more than 30 ‘shots fired’ calls so far this year, the Rome City Commission is seeking to address the issue of gun violence in the community.

A community discussion on gun violence is scheduled for Tuesday, July 18 at 6 p.m. at the Rome City Auditorium.

So far this year, there have been eight gun-related homicides in Rome.

There were just six during all of 2022.

The latest deadly shooting occurred just last week.

Police continue to seek a person of interest in the shooting death of 30-year-old Te’Vian Markez Williams Sr. who was shot and killed at the Callier Forest Apartment on Dodd Boulevard last Tuesday.

Enforcement efforts have sought to address the problem.

In March, Operation Save Our Seniors resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of stolen firearms and drugs.

Again, the community discussion on gun violence is scheduled for Tuesday, July 18 at 6 p.m. at the Rome City Auditorium.
