Rome City Commission meets Tuesday

The Rome City Commission could vote on the appointment of a new planning director when it meets Tuesday night.

According to the Rome news-Tribune, City Manager Sammy Rich is expected to recommend the promotion of assistant planning director Brice Wood to fill the position vacated by Artagus Newell.

Another topic of discussion will be the recently settled water contamination lawsuit.

The settlement with carpet manufacturers, chemical companies, and Dalton Utilities, as well as multiple other parties, is regarding a lawsuit to recoup losses incurred after toxic PFAS chemicals were introduced by those parties into the Oostanaula River over a period of years.

The city commission meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Rome City Hall.

The commission will also hear from United Way Executive Director Alli Mitchell regarding a rapid rehousing partnership with the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority during the caucus, which starts at 5 p.m.
