The storms that rolled through the area Sunday night and into Monday morning are being blamed for the destruction of the Launchbox golf tracer pavilion located at Stonebridge Golf Club.

Rome City Clerk Joe Smith updated members of the city’s general administration committee Tuesday.

“Although there wasn’t widespread damage reported in the community, it must have been a microburst or some other type of strong wind that totally destroyed that pavilion,” he said.

The pavilion is located on the driving range.

According to Smith, an insurance claim has been filed and plans are to rebuild the structure once that claim is settled.

“We may build back a little bit differently,” he said. “We are certainly probably going to go back with the same footprint, but it might look a little bit different.”

According to the Stonebridge website, the Launchbox features covered bays for virtual play with shot tracking technology, along with outdoor furniture and bayside food and beverage service. Players are able to compete in various contests or see who can shoot the best score on various courses, including Pebble Beach.
