Report: Woman threatened elderly person with a knife, used fire extinguisher to break windows of home

A Rome woman is facing multiple charges including burglary and intimidation of the elderly following an incident on Billy Pyle Road Monday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

27-year-old Ashton Leighann Spears entered the property, then used fire extinguisher to break out the windows of the residence and bang on the elderly victim’s bedroom door.

Spears also threatened to use a knife on the victim, who also suffers from heart issues.

Spears was additionally charged with terroristic threats and acts, and 2nd-degree criminal damage to property.

Inmate facing charges following Monday incident

An inmate at the Floyd County Jail is facing charges of escape, felony and misdemeanor counts of obstruction of law enforcement, and unlawful acts of violence in a penal institution.

According to jail records:

23-year-old Jacqueline Leanna Brackett left her cell block and attempted to enter an unauthorized area.

She then sat on the floor, refusing orders to return to her block.

Brackett kicked one officer and spat on the face of another.

Man charged with theft by receiving stolen property, meth possession

A man from Trenton, Georgia was arrested on Highway 53 at Shannon Road Monday after he was caught driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

33-year-old Nicholas Gene Ellison was also found in possession of suspected methamphetamine and had a warrant for his arrest in Alabama.

He is charged with theft by receiving stolen property, possession of meth, and fugitive from justice.

Man accused of stealing equipment from Floyd County water department

A 61-year-old Rome man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with theft by taking.

According to the warrant:

Christopher Jackson Colburn and another man showed up at a job site in the area of Huffaker Road, where the county water department was working.

The two then loaded up a sweeper attachment with a Bobcat they had used without the authorization of the company they worked for.

Colburn and the other man then drove away in their company vehicles with the stolen property.

The value of the sweeper belonging to the county water department was listed at $8,000.

Man charged with theft by conversion

A Rome man has been jailed on a felony count of theft by conversion.

According to the arrest warrant:

50-year-old Ronald Dean Murphy was paid $97,000 to remodel properties at 1033 and 1035 North Broad Street between August and November of last year.

He then failed to fulfill the terms of the verbal agreement.
