WRGA Staff Reports –

The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office has announced that former Sheriff, 89-year-old Pat Baker, has passed away.

Current Gordon Sheriff Mitch Ralston issued the following statement:

“I regret to report that former Sheriff Pat Baker, who served as Sheriff of Gordon County from 1973 through 1988, passed away yesterday at his home.

Sheriff Baker was a native and lifelong resident of Gordon County.

After serving four terms as sheriff, he was employed by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Council, and later as an Associate Magistrate Judge for many years.

Pat was an exemplary sheriff and law officer, known for his ethical and uncompromising conduct, his personal courage, his knowledge of Gordon County and its residents, and his stellar reputation in the state and local law enforcement communities. I admired him very much.

The effects of his administration are still felt in the Sheriff’s Office today. In addition to being deeply missed by his family, he will never be forgotten by the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office and his other colleagues throughout the state.”

Funeral Services for Baker will be conducted on June 9th at 2 PM at Thomas Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fain Cemetery.
