Man charged with robbery and battery
A 71-year-old Rome man was arrested Sunday on a felony warrant charging him with robbery by sudden snatching.
According to the warrant:
Joe Callaway Gibson, during an altercation, took the victim’s cell phone from her hands.
He then put the cell phone in his pocket and left.
Gibson is also charged with battery.
The victim sustained injuries to her right index finger, a bruise on the back of her right arm, and a scratch on her right ankle.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the Evans store on Alabama Highway.
Teen charged with aggravated assault
A teenager was arrested at a location on Lawrence Avenue late last week on a felony aggravated assault charge.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
18-year-old Jose Maria Reyes wrapped his hands around a family member’s throat and attempted to strangle him.
Report: Man beat child with the buckle end of a belt
A 28-year-old Rome man is accused of injuring a child with a belt buckle.
According to the arrest warrant:
Reuben Demetrius Thompson struck the child, who is under the age of 10, with the buckle end of the belt, causing significant bruising and abrasions to the child’s leg, back, chest, and head.
Thompson is charged with 1st-degree cruelty to children.
Woman accused of conspiring to smuggle tobacco into prison
A 25-year-old Rome woman is accused of conspiring with an inmate at the Floyd County Prison to smuggle contraband into the prison.
According to the arrest warrant:
Yazmine Chavez placed more than 40 grams of tobacco, a lighter, a canister with a hidden compartment, and a black shower cap at the inmate’s work detail.
The plan to deliver the contraband was caught on video visits between Chavez and the inmate.
Chavez is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, use of a communications facility to commit a crime involving drugs, and possession of items prohibited for inmates.
Woman charged with child cruelty
A 27-year-old Rome woman was jailed late last week on a felony warrant charging her with 2nd-degree cruelty to children.
According to the warrant:
Lisbeth D. Diaz Perez hit a child under the age of 10 with a belt causing substantial bruising to the victim’s body and hand.
The incident occurred on May 8.
Report: Man swallowed cocaine while at the jail
A man from Jasper, Georgia is accused of trying to destroy evidence while at the Floyd County Jail.
According to jail records:
38-year-old Michael Laborn Byrd pulled a small baggie of cocaine out of his crotch area and swallowed it.
Byrd is charged with tampering with evidence, possession of items prohibited for inmates, and criminal trespass.
Homeless woman arrested at Heritage Park
A 38-year-old homeless woman was arrested Sunday on multiple charges.
According to a Rome Police Department report and Floyd County Jail records:
Jennifer Nicole Marshall was spotted in Heritage Park after hours.
She had a glass smoking device in her bra and a small bag of suspected methamphetamine.
Marshall was also wanted on outstanding warrants dating back to May 2, in connection with another incident at the park where she was found with a syringe containing suspected methamphetamine.
She also began screaming obscenities and spat in the face of an officer.
Marshall is charged with two counts of possession of meth and possession of drug-related objects along with single counts of disorderly conduct, simple battery against a police officer,
Man facing drugs, weapons charges following traffic stop in East Rome
A 42-year-old Rome man is facing multiple charges following his arrest Saturday on Hull Avenue.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Anthony Lewis Jester was in possession of a semi-automatic handgun, which was located under the driver’s seat of his vehicle.
Police also found pills, crack cocaine, and 76.5 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.
Jester is charged with possession of controlled substances, possession of controlled substances with the intent to distribute, felony possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, driving with a suspended license, and improper lane change.
Man who fled traffic stop in February, now in custody
A man who allegedly left the scene of an accident on East Second Avenue at Broad Street back on Feb. 11 was arrested Saturday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Timotheus James Boyett of Rome rear-ended another vehicle and then traveled to Elliot Circle in Garden Lakes.
When an officer tried to stop Boyett’s vehicle, he got out and fled on foot into the woods.
A search of the vehicle turned up a small baggie of suspected cocaine.
Boyett is charged with possession of cocaine, hit and run, obstruction of law enforcement, following too closely, driving with a suspended license, and a probation violation.
Teen accused of fleeing from police
A 19-year-old is facing multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop in the area of Shorter Avenue and Pike Avenue in West Rome late last week.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Wayne Ewerthon Ambrocio-Perez of Rome changed lanes rapidly, almost striking a car, and then rapidly accelerating to a high rate of speed before losing control, striking multiple curbs and a trash can.
The report states that Ambrocio-Perez’s vehicle had a loud aftermarket muffler.
Ambrocio-Perez is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, DUI, driving with a suspended license, no insurance, an exhaust system violation, failure to maintain a lane, improper lane change, reckless driving, and a window tint violation.
