Floyd County Commission meets Tuesday

The Floyd County Commission will consider several purchases and put several items from the planning commission into first reading when they meet Tuesday night.

The commission meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the County Administration Building. The caucus starts at 4 p.m.

During the caucus, the commission will go into executive session to discuss property, litigation, and personnel.

Commissioners will read proclamations for National Police Week and National Correctional Officer’s Week and consider the appointment of Michael McElveen to the Highland Rivers Behavioral Health Board.

Items slated for first reading include:

The rezoning of property at 990 Fosters Mill Road from Heavy Industrial to Agricultural Residential. The Planning Staff recommends approval. The planning commission approved 7-0 with the caveat that the rezoning only applies to the northern lot.

The rezoning of 1791 Wax Road from Office Institutional to Suburban Residential. Planning Staff recommends approval. The planning commission approved 7-0 based on the surveyor’s plat.

A special use permit for civic clubs, veterans, or other social organizations – American Legion Post 5 – at 493 Jones Bend Road. Planning Staff recommends approval with conditions. The planning commission approved 7-0 with staff’s conditions.

A rezoning for property at 5134 Cedartown Highway from Community Commercial to Agricultural Residential. Planning Staff recommends approval. The planning commission approved 7-0.

A rezoning for property at 96 Huffaker Road from Community Commercial to Light Industrial. Planning Staff recommends approval. The planning commission approved 6-1.

A special use permit for mini warehouse/storage units at 0 Burlington Road. Planning Staff recommends denial. The planning commission approved 7-0.

A special use permit for a manufactured home at 7 Nanellen Road. Planning Staff recommends approval with conditions. The planning commission made a motion to deny, resulting in a 5-2 vote against the motion, which results in a recommendation of approval.

Consider a request from purchasing to approve the purchase of a camera security system for the Rome/Floyd Recycle Center from Lansource in the amount of $11,980 using funds from GL Account # 515475 – 52000. Purchasing accepted a quote from Lansource only. Lansource had already installed part of the system (the server) in 2022. This would be an addition to what is currently in place and compatible with the system currently being used.

Consider a request from purchasing to approve a budget increase of $14,630 for additional electrical work at the Berryhill and Cave Spring remote sites using 2017 SPLOST funds from GL Account # 319639 – 66127 – 60025.

Consider a request from purchasing to approve the purchase of one (1) Chevrolet 3500 from Jim Ellis Chevrolet for Public Works in the amount of $73,505 using 2017 SPLOST funds from GL Account # 319639 – 66127 – 60025. This dealer submitted a quote, which meets all specifications requested, and was the lowest price received that met the requirements. This was budgeted at $75,000.

Consider a request from purchasing to approve the purchase of guardrails and accessories from Martin-Robbins Fence Co., Inc. for the Blacks Bluff Road project in the amount of $26,480 using ARPA funds from GL Account # 231472 – 58601. This vendor submitted a bid that met the specifications required and was the lowest bidder.

Consider a request from purchasing to approve the purchase of one (1) Chevrolet Tahoe, Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) from Hardy Chevrolet, using State Bid pricing for the Floyd County Police Department in the amount of $39,145 using 2017 SPLOST funds from GL Account #319639 – 66127 – 60025.

Consider a request from purchasing to approve the purchase of one (1) Chevrolet Pick-up from Rick Hendrick Chevrolet in the amount of $51,360 for Parks and Recreation using 2017 SPLOST funds from GL Account # 319639 – 66127 – 60025. A quote was submitted and this vehicle meets or exceeds the requested specifications.
