A rezoning request for a proposed wood transfer station on Technology Parkway will go back before the Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission when it meets Thursday.

The applicant is seeking a change from Light Industrial to Heavy Industrial for the operation, which uses an enclosed machine to burn wood debris, as opposed to open burning. The logs or chips are brought in by commercial trucks to be incinerated.

The planning commission voted to recommend approval back in March.

However, due to the omission of a letter from Berry College, opposing the project, the Rome City Commission voted to send the matter back to the planning commission.

Other agenda items for Thursday’s meeting include special use permit applications for a wedding and event venue at 777 Youngs Mill Road, mini-warehouses on Burlington Road, and a clubhouse for the American Legion Post 5 at 493 Jones Bend Road.

Rezoning requests for a small-scale wholesale coffee roasting operation at 1219 East Second Avenue and a 52-unit apartment complex on Martha Berry Highway being proposed by Berry College will also go before the planning commission.

The meeting begins at 2:30 p.m. in the Sam King Room at Rome City Hall.
