The 2023 Floyd County SPLOST Citizens Committee will hold its kickoff meeting Thursday.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in the Fire Education Room located at 409 East 12th Street in Rome.

The committee will be chaired by Bob Berry and will review proposals for special purpose, local option sales tax projects before choosing the final project list that will be presented to voters later this year.

Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord recently said there were approximately 65 submissions from citizens, totaling more than $200 million.

Many of the projects are transportation related.

Meanwhile, there are 22 proposed City of Rome projects, including a new police headquarters and fire department headquarters.

Cave Spring is seeking funding to help with the overhaul of its water system and a new roof at the former Cave Spring Elementary School.

Floyd County has six representatives on the committee.

They are Cleve Jackson, Corey Townsend, Keara Leonard, Brad Doyle, Mike Burnes, and Evie McNeice.

Jake Hager, Monica Sheppard, Sam Burrell Jr., and Wendy Davis are the City of Rome’s four representatives while Nick McLemore will represent Cave Spring.

The committee will begin hearing SPLOST presentations on May 4.

Thursday’s meeting is open to the public.
