Both the Rome City and Floyd County Commissions have approved resolutions related to the national opioid settlements.

Georgia is participating in the settlements and local governments have to submit the necessary paperwork to share in the distribution of funds.

“The settlements are with Publix Supermarkets, CVS, Walgreens, et al concerning the prescription opioid litigation,” said Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord. “We did discuss this during caucus and it was also recommended by our county attorney.”

The Rome City Commission actually approved two agreements.

The first resolution agrees to settle with Publix Supermarkets, Inc and allows the mayor and city clerk to sign the agreement.

The second document was a memorandum of understanding concerning the relationship between the state government, the City of Rome, and other cities.

“It does not change the amount of the distribution that the City of Rome would receive,” said Assistant City Attorney Frank Beacham.

The city had previously signed off on documents related to settlements with Teva, Allergan, CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart.

As part of the settlements, resources will go directly to the state and local governments specifically for relief programs to help rebuild the devastation caused by the opioid epidemic.
