Andrew Kirk shares plans for detours this Saturday during Wednesday’s traffic/transit/public works committee meeting

Crews will be in a neighborhood between the rivers Friday filming a Netflix production, and there will be some road closings on East Third Street and East Fourth Avenue as a result.

The general closure time will is slated from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, according to Andrew Kirk, who updated the City of Rome’s traffic/transit and public works committee on Wednesday.

“We don’t think we’re going to use that closure the entire time,” Kirk said. “The filming crew will actually come in maybe about 11 a.m. or noon and will go until about 4 or 5 p.m. At that point, we’ll start turning the neighborhood into what it originally was.”

Prepping of the neighborhood will begin on Thursday.

“That prep includes talking with the neighbors and putting different greenery in their yards,” Kirk added. “It’s a period piece from the 1930s, so they want to make it look more 1930s-ish.”

If it’s raining on Friday, the filming will move to Saturday.

As for the production itself, Kirk said he couldn’t say a lot.

“I can’t say the name, but it is based on a play and a book that won a Pulitzer award some years back. It’s a remake of a movie as well.”
