Report: Man tried to hit police officer

A 59-year-old Rome man is accused of obstructing police from entering his Tency Lane residence while someone inside was yelling for help.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Kerry Wayne Munford Sr. also raised his hand and attempted to strike a police officer then resisted three officers as they were trying to place him in handcuffs.

Munford is charged with felony and misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement and simple assault.

Man charged with felony shoplifting

A homeless man was arrested at the East Rome Walmart Monday on a felony theft by shoplifting charge.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

29-year-old Ty Alexander Hubbard concealed $586 in merchandise in shopping bags and left the store without paying.

The merchandise included clothes and electronics.
