The Floyd County Commission has denied a rezoning request for a lawn mower repair shop at 68 Burton Road.

The applicant was seeking to rezone from Suburban Residential to Heavy Commercial to continue to operate the business. David Dorsey spoke in favor of the rezoning.

“My father-in-law bought it and we thought that it was already zoned commercial,” he said. “We found out that it wasn’t, so we are asking that you rezone it and if there is anything we can do to make it acceptable.”

Planning staff received several letters from neighbors opposing the application. Adam Kijowski spoke in opposition saying his family has owned an adjoining piece of property for over 90 years.

“Our big concern is about the future,” he told the commission. “If it were to be rezoned, and it were to be sold, it could become a motorcycle shop, for instance. That would severely disrupt the area.”

Again, the county commission voted 4-0 to deny it.
