18-year-old charged with auto theft

A Calhoun man is in the Floyd County Jail charged with theft by taking a motor vehicle and theft by receiving stolen property.

According to the arrest warrant:

18-year-old Avant Deshawn Fleetwood was in a vehicle that had been stolen in Calhoun and had stopped in the middle of Callier Springs Road in Rome.

That’s where he located the victim’s vehicle and took it.

Fleetwood was arrested in Atlanta while still in possession of the vehicle that was stolen in Rome.

Fleetwood is also being held for a couple of probation violations and a felony count of failure to appear in court.

Man accused of stealing more than $10K online

A Rome man was jailed Wednesday on a felony count of identity fraud.

According to an arrest warrant:

28-year-old Olon Beechard Pearson used the stolen bank account and routing numbers of the victim to make online transactions between Dec. 5 and Jan. 27.

There were approximately 60 fraudulent charges during that time, totaling more than $10,000.

Man charged with robbery by sudden snatching

A 64-year-old homeless man has been charged in connection with a robbery that occurred on Feb. 2 at a residence on Radio Springs Road.

According to the arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:

Norwood Smith Burnes snatched a cell phone from a woman he shared the residence with.

He then barricaded himself in his camper, refusing to come out when told to do so by the police.

Burnes is also charged with simple assault, misdemeanor obstruction of officers, and failure to appear in court.

Report: Kingston man fled during a traffic stop

A Kingston man is accused of fleeing from Floyd County Police.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

39-year-old William Carlquit Johnson Jr. failed to stop for police who were attempting to pull him over for failing to wear a seatbelt.

He sped through a work zone on Old Calhoun Road and then onto Rush Chapel Road at more than 90 mph before bailing out of the vehicle and running through a field, woods, and water.

Johnson is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, misdemeanor obstruction of officers, speeding, reckless driving, and no seatbelt.

He is also being held on a felony probation violation warrant.

Man charged with meth possession

A traffic stop on Wilshire Road at Crane Drive Wednesday ended with the arrest of a Rome man on drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

47-year-old Edward Lamar McGregory is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, driving with a suspended or revoked license, giving a false name or address to police, and running a stop sign.
