A man who was being sought in connection with an assault and kidnapping back on Feb. 15 is now in custody.

According to the arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:

25-year-old Michael Tyler Spears used his hands to strangle a woman at a home on Smith Road.

The victim lost consciousness for a brief time and had visible marks on her neck.

Spears also forcibly removed the woman from the home, struck her repeatedly, and bit her on the face.

At the time of his arrest Monday at a location on Alabama Highway, Spears was found with suspected methamphetamine, according to the report.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank everyone for their assistance in sharing the information that Spears was wanted.

The public attention that he received led directly to a quick and safe apprehension.
