Additional details have been released regarding a shooting incident at Chuck’s Corner on South broad Street that occurred on Monday.

According to the Rome Police report, video surveillance at the store shows two men getting out of a Dodge Avenger and walking into the store.

About a minute later, a Honda Accord pulls into the parking lot, and 19-year-old Derricus Whatley Jr. got out of the vehicle.

He is seen talking to and waving his hands at a woman in the back seat of the Avenger.

The woman got out of the car and walked into the store.

Whatley also walked into the store and had a pistol with an extended magazine in his pocket.

Once in the store, Whatley started to fight with two men.

That’s when he pulled out the pistol and pointed it at the men, who ran out of the store.

One of those men then retrieved a handgun from his car and fired, striking Whatley in the shoulder.

Whatley fired several rounds at the men as they were driving away.

Whatley was treated at the hospital before he was taken to jail on charges of aggravated assault, pointing or aiming a pistol at another, discharge of a weapon on the property of another, reckless conduct, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Whatley is the son of 40-year-old Derricus Whatley, who was shot and killed Sunday on Tobert Street at North Avenue in North Rome.

20-year-old Stephano Green, a suspect in that shooting, remains at large.
