The GBI is investigating the death of an inmate at the Floyd County Jail.

According to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, 57-year-old Albert Spivey suffered a medical episode in the jail’s medical wing.

Medical staff and deputies that were present immediately began performing life-saving measures until the ambulance arrived.

Spivey was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.  

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was then contacted as is the procedure in these situations.

Spivey has been incarcerated since May 25 on a probation violation according to jail records.
