CALHOUN POLICE REPORT

More information has been released regarding the arrest of a man after a brief chase and standoff with police in Calhoun Wednesday evening.

According to the Calhoun Police report, officers were dispatched to the Applebee’s on Highway 53 after getting a call about someone driving recklessly in the parking lot.

It was later learned that 26-year old Bradley Tyler Posey of Lafayette had used his GMC Sierra to ram a Dodge Journey occupied by a family and then left the scene.

At the Outlet Center Drive intersection, Posey then shot at another motorist, striking the man in the left arm.

A Calhoun Police officer got behind Posey’s pickup truck on Outlet Center Drive.

Posey stopped for traffic at Highway 53 and stuck his head out the window as the officer approached.

However, he pulled his head back inside and started to move forward.

After a brief pursuit, a Gordon County Sheriff’s Deputy used his patrol car to cause the pickup to spin out on South Wall Street.

Authorities could then see that Posey was holding a shotgun to his own head.

After officers spoke to Posey for a lengthy amount of time, they were able to convince him to put the shotgun down and exit the truck.

Posey was booked into the Gordon County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude, and driving with a suspended license.

Calhoun Police Chief Tony Pyle personally commended the officers of the Calhoun Police Department, the deputies of the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, and troopers from the Georgia State Patrol for their efforts to bring a peaceful resolution to the standoff.

“Using de-escalation tactics and patience, officers put the sanctity of life at the center of this confrontation and resolved the situation as safely as possible under the circumstances,” Chief Pyle said.
