A Rome man was arrested New Year’s Eve after he drove his vehicle toward a police officer during a road safety check on North Avenue at Wolf Drive.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Willie Roger Montgomery Jr. then fled from officers, driving in a reckless manner up Highway 53 with speeds reaching around 110 miles per hour.

Montgomery turned onto Highway 140 and eventually stopped at Rush Chapel Road and also admitted to police that he had been on his phone.

He is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, felony obstruction, fleeing or attempting to elude and several traffic violations.
