Two arrested after fleeing traffic stop

Two Rome men were arrested Tuesday afternoon following a traffic stop on Shorter Avenue at Division Street.

According to Floyd County Jail records, a vehicle driven by 21-year old Kavien Jemiah Hicks was stopped for a “hands-free” violation.

A passenger identified as 22-year old Walter Marquez Kirby got out of the vehicle as it slowed and tried to flee on foot, discarding a bag containing approximately seven ounces of marijuana.

Meanwhile, Hicks drove off, striking another vehicle.

Hicks and Kirby are both charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, tampering with evidence, and obstruction of officers.

Hicks was additionally charged with hit and run, failure to yield the right of way, and distracted driving.
