GEORGIA INSURANCE AND FIRE SAFETY COMMISSIONER JOHN KING

Georgia Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner John King says a house explosion that killed an elderly woman south of Cedartown Saturday remains under investigation but at this time the cause of the blast is thought to be related to a propane incident in the home.

The explosion occurred at around 9:30 a.m. and residents up to several miles away reported hearing and feeling the blast.

Investigators with Commissioner King’s Fire Investigations Unit were requested to assist by the Polk County Fire Department around 10:48 a.m.

The explosion completely destroyed the 1290-square-foot, 21-year-old home on Winkle Road just off Highway 27, and claimed the life of 83-year old Faye Harrison.

This marks the 114th death from a Georgia fire in 2021.
