Jobless claims in Rome fall again

Initial claims for unemployment insurance fell again last month in Floyd County.

According to the Georgia Department of Labor, there were 230 claims filed in October, down from 319 in September.

There were 1,956 this time last year.

Surrounding counties saw the same trends.

Jobless claims in Bartow County were down by 23% over the month and 92% over the year.

Chattooga County saw a decline of 23% over the month and 82% over the year.

Gordon County reported 25% fewer unemployment claims from September and October and 86% fewer when compared to last year.

Jobless claims in Polk County were down by 13% over the month and 86% over the year.

The Rome area gained 600 jobs over the month, checking in at 41,500.

That is also up by 1,200 from October of 2020.
