GSP investigating Monday morning fatal wreck in Polk

Staff Reports –

On November 8, 2021, at 8:47 a.m., the Georgia State Patrol Post 3 in Cartersville responded to a fatality crash on Chestnut Street at W. Girard Avenue involving a Cedartown government vehicle.

The preliminary investigation determined that a white GMC Sierra was traveling north on Chestnut Street.

A white Ford F-150 was traveling east on W Girard Avenue.

The driver of the GMC Sierra, Mr. George Wheeler (65 years old), failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection in front of the Ford F-150.

The Ford F-150 struck the GMC Sierra on the left side with its front. After the impact, the GMC Sierra overturned.

Mr. Wheeler sustained fatal injuries.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, this crash is still under investigation.
