NEWS RELEASE

The Rome Police Department is urging the public of a telephone scam that is going around.

Phone calls are being received that appear to come from the police department phone number, 706-238-5111.

It has been reported that citizens are receiving a call stating that the police department has important information for them and that a misdemeanor warrant has been issued.

This is a SCAM.

The Rome Police Department does not call citizens asking for payment of citations or issuance of warrants. Rome Municipal Court mails letters to persons who may have missed their court date.

If anyone receives a phone call similar to this you should immediately hang up. Do not give the caller any personal information.
