Rome unemployment up in June

Rome’s unemployment rate ticked upward last month.

According to the Georgia Department of Labor, the jobless rate in June was 4.2%, up five-tenths of a percentage point from May.

A year ago, the rate was 8 percent.

The labor force decreased in Rome by 369 and ended the month with 43,647.

That number is up 1,119 when compared to June of 2020.

Rome finished the month with 41,826 employed residents, down by 555 over the month and up by 2,680 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Rome ended June with 40,400 jobs. That number decreased by 200 from last month and was up 1,400 when compared to this time last year.

The number of unemployment claims went down by 4 percent in Rome.

When compared to last June, claims were down by about 84 percent.
