“Give A Kid A Chance” event scheduled for July 24th

On Saturday, July 24, 2021, from 10 am to 1 pm the Rome Police Department Selective Enforcement Unit will be on-site at the Floyd County Sheriffs Office “Give A Kid A Chance” event.

Rome Police Officers will be on-site to inspect and replace car seats when the need arises.

If a family is found to be out of compliance with state law a car seat will be issued to assist the family with providing safe transportation.

The Rome Police Department is excited about the new program and we are looking forward to serving our community.

“The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office is excited to partner with the BLESS Coalition and Crosspoint Community Church to present “Give A Kid A Chance” to the residents of Floyd County on Saturday, July 24th, 2021 from 10 am-1 pm.

The Give A Kid A Chance program provides book bags, school supplies, boxes of canned foods, and more to kids in need within the community. All items given away are while supplies last. The Give A Kid A Chance program is currently in Bartow County and serves over 2,000 kids in the summertime.

“We are excited to partner with the Crosspoint Community Church to bring this event to our community. Hopefully, we will be able to help several families get the supplies their children need to get a good start to the school year,” says Sheriff Roberson.

“This inaugural event in Floyd County will start by serving 100 kids and book bags will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis to families who need a little extra help to get ready for the coming school year. We know that kids need to feel confident and prepared when they walk into the classroom that the first day to set the tone for a wonderful, successful school year.

In addition to our agency, the BLESS Coalition and Crosspoint we are also going to have our other local law enforcement agencies and community organizations present to meet with the community or give out items from their respective agency.

Rome City Police will be present and will be giving out car seats to families that need them. Rome Fire will be on site with their Fire Safety Educators to speak to families about fire safety. Floyd County Police and Floyd County Prison are confirmed to be on-site as well.

We hope to see a great turnout from our community. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and beverages will be cooked on-site and will be available at no cost while supplies last. – Lt. Anthony Cromer
