STAFF REPORTS

The Rome Alcohol Control Commission has voted to move a request for a downtown open container trial period to the full Rome City Commission for consideration.

The proposal from the Rome Downtown Development Authority to allow consumption on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. from August 5 to October 30 will be presented during the city commission caucus on June 28.

This will be the third time the commission has been asked to consider such a measure.

The ACC previously discussed the topic of downtown public consumption of alcohol at several meetings in 2017.

Ultimately, the recommendation to allow public consumption was sent to the City Commission; however, it failed to pass.

In 2020, the ACC once again recommended that the public consumption of alcohol be allowed in downtown Rome on a limited, temporary basis with the feeling it could be beneficial to businesses hurt by COVID-19 restrictions.

Once again, the recommendation failed to gain approval from the City Commission.
