Floyd County Commission meets Tuesday

March 22, 2021–9:41 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

The Floyd County Commission is expected to conduct a public hearing and possibly vote on an amendment to the Unified Development Code of related to hobby farms and wildlife parks or zoos in the agricultural residential and suburban residential zoning districts when they meet Tuesday.

Rome-Floyd Planning Director Artegus Newell spoke about the amendment during a recent planning commission meeting.

“We’ve had several citizens in the past couple of years or so who have suburban, residentially zoned property in unincorporated Floyd County who wish to have cattle, chickens, and horses,” he said.  “To that end, the Floyd County Commission had requested staff to draft an ordinance that would allow, by right, farm or livestock animals while at the same time having some protections for neighbors.”

Other agenda items for tonight’s county commission meeting include the approval of the fee schedule for the Forum River Center and an agreement with International Paper to create a funding source for approximately fifteen trees to be planted annually in the Rome-Floyd County Parks & Recreation Department’s outdoor parks during the month of February for the next four years.

During the caucus, commissioners will get an update regarding Floyd County Emergency Management.

The caucus will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Floyd Room at the Forum River Center.

The regular meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the ballroom.

The meetings are open to the public.

Everyone in attendance is asked to wear a mask and to practice social distancing.
