The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced a delay for the Turner McCall Boulevard Bridge replacement project (over the Etowah River and Norfolk Southern Railroad).

GDOT District 6 Communications Officer Joe Schulman informed WRGA News that “Due to some environmental issues and requested bridge layout changes, this project was pushed back to a proposed 2026 construction start.”

Schulman also stated: “As with all GDOT projects, that date can change throughout the life of the planning of the project.”

The replacement bridge is slated to include four lanes of traffic plus additional width for turn lanes.

Previously GDOT Engineers have determined after a routine inspection that the current bridge that was built in 1956 needed to be replaced, and the decision was made to extend the turn lanes across the bridge to facilitate staged construction and help reduce congestion.
