The Rome City School Board has voted to extended COVID sick leave benefits for employees.
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act allowed employees up to 10 days of paid sick leave related to COVID-19 before having to use personal sick leave.
Rome City School Superintendent Lou Byars said the original act expired on December 31.
“I am asking that we voluntarily extend this benefit through the end of this fiscal year, which is June 30, 2021, for our employees who may have to be absent due to COVID-19-related reasons.”
The Floyd County Board of Education also passed the voluntary extension during a called meeting on Monday.
The extension for county school system employees runs through May 31.
