A Shannon woman died in a two-vehicle wreck Thursday morning on Highway 53 at Burlington Road.

According to Floyd County Police Sgt. Chris Fincher, a Ford Taurus driven by 74-year old Mattie Champion was traveling south.

She attempted to turn left onto Burlington.

Champion failed to yield and turned into the path of a northbound Toyota Sienna.

Champion was transported to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The two occupants of the mini-van were not hurt.

The wreck occurred at around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
