Dr. Glenn White has been named superintendent of the Floyd County School System.
The Floyd County Board of Education approved the appointment by a 5-0 vote during a called meeting Wednesday morning.
Dr. White has been serving as interim superintendent since the resignation of Dr. Jeff Wilson in August.
“I appreciate Dr. White stepping in as the interim,” said School Board Chair Dr. Tony Daniel. “He came into a very difficult with COVID and everything else that is involved in this.”
Dr. White said he is honored to lead the school system.
“First off, I’d like to thank the board of education for this opportunity to be the superintendent in this great, outstanding school system,” he said. “We have great administrators, teachers, students, parents, and support staff. The whole group of all our group, like Dr. Daniel was talking about, are top of the line and the best you can find anywhere in the world.”
Dr. White started his career with the school system as a teacher at Armuchee High School in 1982, but he is most known for being the principal at Model High School for many years and then director of student services at the central office.
Dr. White is also president of the Georgia High Schools Association or GHSA.
