The Floyd County Commission has approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Rome-Floyd Development Authority, the Tax Assessor’s Office and Ball Container.

The agreement pertains to Ball Container’s expansion project at its existing site which represents a $64-million investment by the company, according to Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord.

“It has a 12-year abatement plan with a $47,500 Payment In Lieu of Taxes over that time,” McCord said.  “This was approved by the Rome-Floyd Development Authority at its meeting last week, and it is scheduled to go before the Rome City Commission next week.”

In other action, commissioners approved the renovation by Brooks Building Group of the Braves Premium Terrace and remaining components of upgrades at State Mutual Stadium.

“There has been a $114,000 deduct from this contract with some revisions to be made in the future with those remaining funds as part of the terrace improvement,” McCord stated.  “This is the majority of that project.  I will also mention that the Braves have invested in a new scoreboard, a Jumbotron, a sound system, a clubhouse expansion and remodeling of the kitchen area of the player’s area.”

The upgrades total more than $1.3 million and are being funded with proceeds from the 2017 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
