Rome area adds jobs in August

The Northwest Georgia job market is improving but we still have a way to go to get back to where we were before COVID-19 hit.

According to the Georgia Department of Labor, the Rome area saw 400 jobs added from July to August.

Rome is up by 100 jobs when compared to August of last year.

First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Floyd County fell from 4,292 in July to 2,099 last month.

There were 237 initial claims in August of 2019.

Jobless claims in Bartow County decreased from 5,253 to 2,123 over the month.

There were 186 initial claims in Bartow County this time last year.

Gordon County reported 1,303 claims, down from 2,707 in July but up from 264 in August of last year.

Polk County had 877 claims, down from 1,656 the month before, but still higher than the 80 filed in August of 2019.

Chattooga County reported 148 initial unemployment claims in August, down from 285 in July but up from 32 in August of last year.
