Man accused of shooting Whitfield Co. Deputy in custody

A Texas man wanted for the shooting of a Whitfield County Deputy is now in custody.

More than 100 law enforcement officers from multiple jurisdictions set up a perimeter near the Gordon-Whitfield County Line after Dalton Potter was spotted in the area just after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Potter reportedly shot a man on Cline Road in Gordon County.

That man was taken to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga and is in stable condition.

After the shooting, Potter headed north where he had an encounter with another resident of the area before going into the woods.

The Georgia Bureau of investigation announced at around 10:45 p.m. that Potter had been captured.

Authorities say that 29-year old Dalton Potter shot Deputy Darrell Hackney during a traffic stop.

Hackney’s ballistic vest prevented serious injury.

Potter escaped driving south on I-75.

His pickup truck and the stolen trailer were located near the Gordon County line.

A man, who was with Potter, 47-year old Jonathan Hosner, was captured Tuesday morning.

Potter is still at-large.
