Report: Man shot another man because of loud music

A 70-year old Rome man has been arrested in the shooting of a 30-year old man on East Drive in Rome Wednesday evening.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Charles Vincent Hawkins went onto the victim’s property and discharged a firearm, striking the victim in the chest.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries that required immediate surgery and life-saving measures.

Hawkins reportedly admitted to the shooting and said he did it because the victim was playing loud music from his vehicle.

Hawkins was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, reckless conduct, discharge of a firearm near a public street or roadway and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
