STAFF REPORTS

Discussions regarding the relocation of the Nathan Bedford Forrest monument from the Myrtle Hill Cemetery to Jackson Hill are continuing.

Once the studies have been completed, the statue could be moved.

In the meantime, two committees are being formed, according to City Commissioner Jamie Doss.

There is a 180-day Interpretation Committee which will create the wording the will be placed on the plaque for the statue,” he said.  “Then there is the second committee, which would be a Monuments Advisory Committee.  It will be a permanent committee that will look at all our monuments and also consider possible new monuments.

The interpretation committee will be made up of three supporters of the Forrest statue and three who are against it.

A seventh impartial member would serve as chair.

If you would like to serve on that committee, the application can be found HERE.
