Initial jobless claims decline in June

First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Floyd County fell last month but still remain higher than this time last year.

According to the Georgia Department of Labor, there were 4,928 initial claims filed in June, down from 7,309 in May.  There were only 278 in June of 2019.

Similar trends were seen in surrounding counties.

In Bartow County, the number of claims fell from 9,161 to 5,358 from May to June.  There were 142 in June of last year.

Jobless claims in Gordon County declined from 5,302 to 3,347 over the month.  However, that is still more than the 133 this time last year.

Polk County saw a decline over the month from 2,806 to 2,005.  There were only 84 in June of 2019.

Chattooga County’s initial claims were down from 608 to 318 from May to June.  There were 31 in June of last year.
