Report: Man took police officer’s weapon

A Lindale man is facing multiple charges after allegedly getting a hold of a police officer’s gun during an altercation on Sunday.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 30-year old Steven Ejisimekwu fired a round from the weapon as officers were still fighting with him.

He also allegedly took a taser from one of the officers.

Police had responded to the Avenue C residence in reference to a domestic altercation in which Ejisimekwu reportedly struck the victim while holding a knife.

He also tried to prevent the victim from calling 911 and broke the victim’s cell phone.

Ejisimekwu is charged with four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of removing a weapon from a public official, six counts of felony obstruction of officers, hindering a person from making a 911 call, simple assault, simple battery, and criminal trespass.

He was also charged with aggravated stalking for violating a conditional bond ordering him to have no contact with the victim.
