ROME POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT
A woman sustained burns in a Tuesday night fire on Spider Web Drive, according to a Rome Police report.
The report states that Lt. Paul Greene with the Rome Police Department was patrolling in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and was approaching North Broad Street when he noticed smoke in the area and recognized the smell as a structure fire.
He located the structure, which had heavy smoke coming from the interior.
He then found a woman on a landing near the rear of the building, just outside the doorway that had heavy flames pouring out of it.
Lt. Greene helped the woman to the front of the building and Floyd EMS was called to treat the woman as she had obvious burns on her arm.
A witness told police that he had seen the smoke and knew the woman was inside the building.
He found her slumped over very near the fire and pulled her out of the door.
The woman was transported to a burn unit in Austell for treatment.
